Laser weld machine offers fast fiber alignment

July 11, 2001
The system, which also incorporates automated fiber and ferrule feed within the photonic package, features cycle times approaching four minutes.

Axsys Technologies, Inc. (Boston, MA), which designs and manufactures micro-positioning and precision optical products, has introduced the FAST 30 automated laser weld fiber attach station. According to Andre By, general manager and technical director of Axsys automation engineering, the laser weld machine incorporates automated fiber and ferrule feed within the photonic package, in addition to providing fully automated fiber alignment and laser welding. He adds that total cycle times of typically four minutes are roughly half the time of alternative automation machines and is designed for 24/7 operation.

The FAST 30 series of automation machines support laser welding, epoxy dispense/cure, and solder processes using a standard station base and software. For more information, contact Axsys Technologies, Inc., at www.axsys.com.
