ILX LIGHTWAVE ANNOUNCES RELEASE OF ULTRA-LOW NOISE BATTERY POWERED LASER DIODE CURRENT SOURCE

BOZEMAN, Montana, October 2010 - ILX Lightwave introduces the LDX-3620B Ultra Low Noise Current Source, a new low noise, battery powered current source optimized for narrow linewidth and stable wavelength laser diode based applications. The dual-range instrument provides up to 200 mA or 500 mA of drive current with rms noise as low as 100 nA and better than 10 ppm stability in constant current or constant power operating modes. The current output of the LDX-3620B can also be controlled by one or two external voltage sources via the instrument’s modulation inputs. The inputs can be used for applications requiring linewidth broadening, wavelength control, or amplitude modulation. Each input can be either AC or DC coupled and the sensitivity of the two inputs differs by a factor of 10 for convenient modulation and error signal summing.

The LDX-3620B incorporates multiple laser diode protection features which protect laser diodes connected to the instrument from ESD, inadvertent over current levels, and power line transients. The current source output terminals are floating relative to chassis ground to prevent any potentially damaging common ground coupling. Slow start circuits minimize power up transients at the laser diode and a shorting relay across the output terminals maintains the laser leads at the same potential until the current source is enabled.

With a fully charged battery the 3620B can be operated up to 16 hours at its full rated output. The battery charge level can be monitored at any time during instrument operation via a front panel battery charge indicator. An external AC to DC power supply is provided for charging the instrument’s internal batteries or operating continuously with AC power if desired.
