The MW9070B mini OTDR includes a software function that allows the instrument to continuously monitor fiberoptic lines from a remote location, based on commands given through a PC at a central location. The PC runs monitoring software that commands the optical time domain reflectometer and supplies it with baseline data for comparison. Another new software features allows public phone lines or RS-232C interfaces to be used for transmitting data and alarms between the computer to instrument.
