Raytheon gets $49 million order for Phalanx systems
Raytheon Systems Co. (Lexington, MA) has received a $49 million direct commercial contract from Itochu Aviation Inc. (El Segundo, CA) for four Phalanx Close-In Weapons Systems (CIWSs) and associated spare parts for sale to the Japan Defense Agency. The Phalanx CIWS is a rapid-fire, computer-controlled radar and gun system that automatically acquires, tracks, and destroys enemy threats that have penetrated all other ship-defense systems. The systems will be installed on two of the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force Murasame Class destroyers.
