    Tellium Inc. (Edison, NJ) will install an advanced optical network to handle voice, video, and data traffic for US government agencies. The $2.5 million contract with the Department of Defense (DoD) is Tellium`s first contract since 1997, when it separated from Bellcore, the former research arm of the regional Bell operating companies, and became a commercial company. The $2.5 million contract with the Department of Defense (DoD) is Tellium`s first contract since 1997, when it separated from Bellcore, the former research arm of the regional Bell operating companies, and became a commercial company. Tellium will install an optical ring network that will serve three sites around Washington, DC, starting in early 1999. The network will support wavelength-division multiplexing to transmit DoD information and test new fiberoptic network technologies.
