Production strategy holds defense technology edge

Dec. 1, 1994
Defense contractors have been adapting to the shrinking military and aerospace markets by pursuing dual-use technologies and by downsizing. Given this dual-use focus and the fact that much military aerospace expertise does not readily lend itself to civilian product lines, research and development (R&D) investment for national defense systems may suffer. If unchecked, this trend may erode the US Armed Forces` technological edge.
