Cardiff, Wales, July 17, 2002 -- Cardiff is set to welcome a record number of exhibitors at this year's Photonex 2002 exhibition, being held in the city for the first time from 4 - 5 September. Taking place at the Cardiff International Arena, organizers of the UK's main exhibition for optics, photonics, display, fiber, imaging, lasers, optoelectronics and telecoms, are reporting a high interest from across the entire industry spectrum, for both participating companies and visitors.
Industry sectors already confirmed for the exhibition include medical, automotive, aviation, telecommunications, industrial and photonic component manufacturing. Companies will be displaying their latest products and product applications. Traditionally held at Stoneleigh Park, Coventry, Photonex2002 will this year encompass Photon02, a unique showcase of major research and industrial conferences covering Industrial Technology and Applied Optics and Optoelectronics.
With bookings already ahead of previous levels, the show is on target to beat last year's event, which itself had 40% more exhibitors and 25% more first-time exhibitors than on show in 2000.
Photonex2002 Exhibition Director, Laurence Devereux, said, "We chose Cardiff because it offers the range of facilities for delegates and visitors, excellent public transport connections and most importantly it raises the status of our event. He added, "Photonics reaches into everybody's lives, although the boom sector of optical communications is now 10% of what it was 2 years ago. Use of photonics is growing rapidly in all areas.
"Everyone comes into contact with optics and photonics in their everyday lives. Whether it is the display on their cooker, their high-speed internet connection or digital cameras - the average house has 3000 photonics items in it."
