Splicing Innovations Driving Optics Industry Beyond Telecommunications says Fujikura Europe Ahead of SPIE Optics + Optoelectronics 2013

Fujikura demonstrates high-performance FSM-100P+ optical fusion splicer and glass processor at Europe’s leading exhibition for optical instruments in Prague

Prague, CZECH REPUBLIC and London, UK. The number and type of optical fibres for fusion splicing applications is rapidly increasing and being diversified beyond telecommunication and into fibre lasers for the medical, defence, space and transportation sectors, according to Fujikura Europe.

As the world-leader in fusion splicing technology, Fujikura has invested significantly in research and development to create its latest speciality splicer to address these markets. The FSM-100P+, which will be on show at SPIE Optics + Optoelectronics 2013 in Prague between 15 – 18 April, has many new features helping to drive this trend.

Roy Higgins, Deputy Managing Director of Fujikura Europe, said the increasingly sophisticated tools on the market were one reason for the surge in demand in the vertical industries.

"There is a definite increase in orders from companies outside of telecoms looking to use the latest fusion splicing technologies to innovate their own processes and achieve more. We have developed a whole host of new features for our FSM-100 series to address the needs of our factory, manufacturing, laboratory and R&D customers," he said.

The latest in the series, the FSM-100P+ provides advanced capabilities suitable for fibre lasers, sensors, research and development and the medical field. These features include the innovative end-view fibre observation system; XLDF (extra-large diameter fibre up to 1200 um) splicing capacity using Plasma Zone Path Modulation; patented Split V-groove clamping systems; enhanced sweep ARC technology and other features for glass processing and fibre tapering.

Fujikura Europe will showcase the FSM-100P+ at SPIE Optics + Optoelectronics in Prague between 15 – 18 April.
