To strengthen its product development and engineering efforts, Fiberspace, Inc. (Woodland Hills, CA), a privately held developer of laser products for fiberoptic communications systems and components, has named Osama Bahgat Vice President of Engineering. Bahgat brings to his new position more than 26 years of telecommunications experience from several leading industry companies, including Alcatel and Nortel Networks. At Fiberspace, Bahgat will direct the cross-functional development process from concept to market.
Before joining Fiberspace, Bahgat was at CopperCom, where he successfully led the voice over broadband (VoB) product development team and delivered several successful releases of the gateway product. Prior to that, he led the development of Lite Span broadband DSL hardware products at Alcatel, which significantly increased the company's market share and strengthened its position as the Next Generation Digital Loop Carrier (NGDLC) market leader. Bahgat also held a variety of management and technical positions at Nortel Networks and Bell-Northern Research, where he was key to several developments and products, such as ATM, service adaptive line cards, ISDN-U interface, and video teleconferencing.
Bahgat earned his MS in electrical engineering from Concordia University in Montreal, Canada. He has co-authored several publications and holds three patents.
