Stago flow cytometry assay kit for P2Y12 inhibitor monitoring and biomarker studies

Oct. 11, 2010
The VASP flow cytometry assay kit from Diagnostica Stago, Inc. (Stago) monitors specific platelet ADP receptor (P2Y12) antagonists and their in vitro effects, and may also be used as a biomarker to track hemostatic effects of P2Y12 inhibitors such as PLAVIX and other thienopyridine-class drugs.

The VASP flow cytometry assay kit from Diagnostica Stago, Inc. (Stago; Parsippany, NJ) monitors specific platelet ADP receptor (P2Y12) antagonists and their in vitro effects, and may also be used as a biomarker to track hemostatic effects of P2Y12 inhibitors such as PLAVIX and other thienopyridine-class drugs, with two-color results in 30 minutes. Samples may be analyzed up to 48 hours after collection, allowing for reference lab analysis away from the patient facility.

PRESS RELEASE

October 1, 2010 -- Stago's VASP Assay Used For P2Y12 Inhibitor Monitoring And Biomarker Studies

October 1, 2010, Parsippany, NJ, USA - The VASP flow cytometry assay kit from Diagnostica Stago, Inc. (Stago), monitors specific platelet ADP receptor (P2Y12) antagonists and their in vitro effects, and may also be used as a biomarker to track hemostatic effects of P2Y12 inhibitors such as PLAVIX® and other thienopyridine class drugs. Additionally, as the assay is P2Y12-specific and independent of other platelet receptors, aspirin and abciximab (ReoPro®) do not interfere with P2Y12 platelet activation status results.

The VASP research-use-only assay protocol is simple. Small-volume citrated whole blood samples are used to measure intracellular platelet vasodilator-stimulated phosphoprotein, and as a no-wash assay, pre-treatment steps are not required. A flow cytometer measures the sample's phosphorylation states, and acts as a biomarker for inhibited, activated or resting platelets, with two-color results in 30 minutes. The assay's superior stability means that samples may be analyzed up to 48 hours after collection, allowing for reference lab analysis away from the patient facility.

Stago's standardized flow cytometry-based VASP assays are an easy alternative to traditional functional assays such as platelet aggregometry, and offer increased accessibility and sensitivity for many cellular targets. Additionally, this method offers inter-laboratory and day-to-day reproducibility as well as positive and negative threshold determinations. Stago's VASP flow cytometry assay kit is for research use only in the U.S. and Canada, and is not for use in diagnostic procedures.
