Magneto-optical trap (MOT) kit from Toptica Photonics features spectroscopy modules

Sept. 8, 2011
The Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT), the most popular laser cooling and trapping setup, uses a vacuum system with optical access and a magnetic quadrupole field to trap the atoms.

The Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT), the most popular laser cooling and trapping setup, uses a vacuum system with optical access and a magnetic quadrupole field to trap the atoms. Narrow linewidth, frequency-stabilized lasers with spectroscopy modules and locking electronics produce an effective atomic cloud of cooled, trapped neutral atoms. These low-density, slow-moving atoms can provide quantum information for measurements, scientific research, and student education.

PRESS RELEASE

Magneto-Optical Trap (MOT)
Create your own laser-cooled atomic cloud

TOPTICA Photonics – key supplier of lasers, locking electronics and spectroscopy units for laser cooling experiments – now offers the first commercial MOT kit in cooperation with ColdQuanta Inc. A MOT, the most popular laser cooling and trapping setup, uses a vacuum system with optical access and a magnetic quadrupole field to trap the atoms. Narrow linewidth, frequency-stabilized TOPTICA lasers (TA pro, DL pro, DL DFB), with spectroscopy modules and locking electronics produce an effective atomic cloud of cooled, trapped, neutral atoms. These low-density, slow-moving atoms can provide quantum information for high-precision measurements, scientific research and student education.

Come to the TOPTICA booth (B1.117) at the LASER World of Photonics Show 2011 to see a live rubidium MOT demonstration with our supercompact,
dynamic system.

Available products are:

miniMOTTM: A revolutionary small vacuum system with glass cell,
ion pump and rubidium dispenser.

Key features:

Excellent optical access

Welded vacuum chamber assembly

Compact footprint (8.5x4.5”x5.125”, 216x114x130mm3)

Integrated electronics and mounting hardware for vertical
optics

miniMOTTM + Coils: miniMOTTM + mounted anti-Helmholtz coils for required magnetic quadrupole field generation

miniMOTTM kit: miniMOTTM + coils + optics, opto-mechanics and camera to set up a complete MOT. Just add frequency-stabilized lasers to create your own laser-cooled and trapped Rb cloud

Lasers + references kit: DL pro/TA pro + CoSy + wavelength meters – all required lasers, spectroscopy units and locking modules to complete the MOT setup

TOPTICA Photonics AG develops, manufactures, services and distributes technology-leading diode and fiber lasers and laser systems for scientific and industrial applications.
